California COVID-19 Update – June 2022

As we continue to navigate COVID-19 safety in the workplace, it is important we stay updated with current public health guidelines and other safety protocols. Your local loss control, claims and risk management teams are here and ready to provide support when you need us.

Cal/OSHA’s COVID-19 Emergency Temporary Standard effective until December 31, 2022 1

  • Still in effect are the requirements to establish, implement, and maintain an effective program that includes training.
  • California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) definitions and orders are adopted, which may change. This includes “close contact” and “infectious period” definitions, as well as orders for face masks, close contacts, isolation, and quarantine guidelines.
  • Upon request, face coverings and respirators are to be provided no cost, regardless of vaccination status.
  • Removed “Fully Vaccinated” definition as protections apply to all regardless of vaccination status.
  • Removed requirements for cleaning and disinfecting.
  • Making COVID-19 testing available to employees with COVID-19 symptoms at no cost and during work time now includes all employees regardless of vaccination status.
  • 2022 COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave is effective January 1, 2022, to September 30, 2022. 2

Face Coverings Still Required in Select Areas 3

  • As of April 20, 2022, the California Department of Public Health requires masks, regardless of vaccination status, at select locations including healthcare settings, emergency shelters and cooling centers, correctional facilities and detention centers, homeless shelters, and long-term care facilities such as nursing homes.
  • In Los Angeles County, masks are still required on all public transit and transportation hubs, including airports, buses and ride shares.
