Ken Kirk

Chair Ken Kirk

Ken Kirk is president of BroadStreet Partners, an investor in insurance brokerages. In this role, he leverages his strong expertise in sourcing and developing insurance agency partnerships for BroadStreet. His extensive knowledge in agency operations, and mergers and acquisitions, is Kirk's strongest attribute. Kirk was a manager with Arthur Andersen & Co. In 1989 he acquired Insurance West in Scottsdale, Ariz., and served as its chief executive officer. He subsequently merged Insurance West with Brown & Brown Insurance in 1995; he was regional president, a post he held through 2010. Kirk also is founder and owner of Meridian Financial Holdings, a regional insurance brokerage that provides insurance products and services to businesses and individual clients, with offices in the Southwest. In 2013, Gov. Jan Brewer appointed Kirk to the board of directors of SCF Arizona, which subsequently privatized into CopperPoint Mutual Insurance Company, a leading provider of workers' compensation insurance and commercial lines products in the West. He now serves as CopperPoint's chairman of the board, chair of the audit committee and member of the investment and finance committee. Prior to serving as chair, Kirk served as vice chairman. CopperPoint has $1.4 billion in surplus and more than $3.4 billion in investment assets. Kirk is founding chairman and an active board member of the Arizona chapter of Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF), a nonprofit organization. He also is a member of the Paradise Valley (Ariz.) Country Club finance committee. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from Arizona State University.

Marc E. Schmittlein

Marc E. Schmittlein, CPCU, AAI

President & CEO

Schmittlein brings more than 30 years of commercial insurance experience. He joined CopperPoint on June 6, 2016. Schmittlein was most recently with The Travelers Company as president of its cyber business division and previously as co-president of business insurance. Prior to those roles, he served as president and CEO of the small commercial division known as Select Accounts, a $2.7 billion division of Travelers' Business Insurance that included workers compensation, business owner's policy, umbrella coverage and commercial auto. In addition, his career includes leadership roles in commercial divisions of St. Paul Companies and Aetna. Schmittlein holds the designations of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter and Accredited Advisor in Insurance. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Allegheny College, Pennsylvania. Schmittlein serves on the board of directors for the Greater Phoenix Economic Council and the advisory board of the Arizona Chapter Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF); he previously served as honorary chair of the Western Connecticut Chapter of JDRF. He also is active with United Way.

Stephen Tully

Vice Chair Stephen Tully

Stephen Tully has served on the CopperPoint Insurance Companies Board of Directors since 2010. Tully specializes in complex commercial litigation and is the managing partner of the Phoenix office of Hinshaw & Culbertson, LLP. He received his J.D. from the University of Arizona, College of Law in 1991. An attorney for more than 23 years, Tully has represented local and national businesses, major national and regional insurance carriers and their policyholders, home builders, governmental entities and officers, as well as individual claimants. From 2001-2007, he served in the Arizona House of Representatives and was Majority Leader from 2005-2007. In addition, he served on numerous governmental boards including chairman of the Developmental Disabilities Planning Council and vice chairman of the Property and Casualty Insurance Guaranty Fund. Previously he worked for the St. Paul Insurance Company. With a career steeped in insurance and business law, and a longstanding commitment to Arizona businesses, Tully has been instrumental in the Board's leadership and direction.

Sara Begley

Executive Vice President, General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer

Sara Begley oversees the Legal & Regulatory Affairs Division, including Workers Compensation Legal Services & Government Relations and the General Counsel's Office. Sara Begley joined CopperPoint Insurance Companies in November 2008 as Associate General Counsel and became Assistant Vice President, Insurance Regulatory Compliance in 2012. During Begley's 16-year career with the Arizona Department of Insurance, she held several management positions, including deputy director. After leaving the DOI, Sara was in private practice where her clients included SCF Arizona and National Council on Compensation Insurance. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business from Arizona State University, earned her law degree from the University of Arizona and has achieved a designation as a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). In addition, Sara is an Associate in General Insurance and a Certified Compliance Professional. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute and Arizona Property & Casualty Insurance Guaranty Fund.

Marsha Brown

Vice President Business Development & Distribution

Marsha Brown brings more than 30 years' experience in Commercial Property and Casualty to CopperPoint Insurance Companies, where she is responsible for building the company's agent/broker distribution channels in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada and Utah. Prior to joining CopperPoint, Brown was a regional sales director, managing Western states for Travelers' Small Commercial Division. Her previous experience includes serving as commercial underwriting director, national affinity program manager, as well as service center operations leader for Aetna. She holds a Certified Insurance Counselor designation and is an active member of the community and in the arts. Brown serves on the board of Kids' Chance Arizona and is a supporting member of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), and the National Association of Professional Women. She also volunteers with St. Mary's Food Bank, Kids at Hope, and Dress for Success.

Ginny Arnett Caro

Ginny Arnett Caro, AINS, AIC

Senior Vice President, Chief Claims Officer

Ginny Arnett Caro has more the 30 years experience in medical case management and the insurance industry. She began her career with CopperPoint Insurance Companies in 2000 as manager of the Yuma office. In 2008 she became Director of Claims Management and led the move to centralize claims management into CopperPoint's home office. Caro was promoted to vice president, Claims Services in 2010 and was named senior vice president, Claims Services in 2017. She holds a master's in social work from the University of Missouri and a master's in human resource development and management from Webster University in St. Louis. Additionally, she is a licensed Property & Casualty producer and has received her designation of Associate in Claims and General Insurance. Active in community service programs, Ginny served on the board of directors for Valley Leadership from 2008-2014; she now serves on the Positive Paths board of directors and also on the East Valley Partnership board of directors.

Jennifer Carrick

Jennifer Carrick, FCAS, MAAA

Vice President, Chief Actuary & Chief Risk Officer

Jennifer Carrick joined CopperPoint Insurance Companies in June 2010. She has more than 20 years of experience as a property and casualty actuary. Prior to joining CopperPoint she was a consulting actuary at IIC, LLC in Atlanta, where her clients included insurance companies, self-insureds, self-insurance funds and government entities. Before that, Carrick held actuarial positions primarily at insurance companies, including Bankers Insurance Company and ACE USA. Her experience includes loss reserve analysis, pricing and product development. Carrick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science from Drake University. She is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Carrick also serves on the board for College Success Arizona.

Terry Cavin

Terry Cavin, CCP, CISM, CLU

Assistant Vice President, IT Infrastructure

Terry Cavin has 30 years IT Infrastructure experience in IT Security, Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity, and IT Infrastructure Management, including audit, contracts, and vendor management. During his career Cavin has directed IT infrastructure activities including the refurbishment of a 6,000-square-foot data center, development of IT security function and initiatives, corporate and IT business resumption, implementation of ITIL processes and all aspects of IT governance. He has lead network teams in development of Data Replication/Data Mirroring, server and application virtualization, Data Center/Network Operations Center(NOC), Sharepoint Infrastructure, DB2/LUW, SqlServer, Websphere on Z/Linux infrastructure, Internet and Wide Area Network Circuits for multi-state operations, and Intrusion Detection/Prevention. His organization included an IT Support Center handling over 65,000 service requests annually, as well as hundreds of application and infrastructure servers and components, and more than 6,000 end user devices. Cavin is a graduate of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, a Certified Information Security Manager with ISACA, and a Chartered Life Underwriter. He helped establish the Carrera Soccer Club in Columbia, Mo. and holds a USSF "C" National Coaching license.

Bipin Chadha

Bipin Chadha, Ph.D.

Assistant Vice President, Data Science and Analytics

Dr. Bipin Chadha has over 25 years of experience in developing advanced analytics, simulation, and optimization models to solve challenging business problems for a broad range of industries and is a recognized expert in this field. He joined CopperPoint in March, 2017 as AVP Data Science and Analytics. He is responsible for applying advanced data science and analytics techniques to all aspects of the business and for developing a roadmap to grow analytics capabilities and its business applications. Prior to joining CopperPoint, Chadha was the first data scientist for USAA, where he helped establish the data science practice, developed numerous analytical, machine learning, simulation, and optimization models for all parts of the financial services organization that helped save hundreds of millions of dollars for the business, informed business strategy, and reduced risk. He has won several awards for data visualization, enterprise level models, and chatbots. Prior to USAA he worked for analytics consulting company NuTech Solutions, computer software company PTC, and aerospace company Lockheed Martin, where he developed a wide range of analytical models for strategic decision support, war-gaming, large system design, cyber-defense, and operational improvements. He has worked on several advanced research programs for DARPA and defense research labs. He received his doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech, a Master of Science degree from Southern Illinois University (SIU), and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from IIT-Roorkee. He frequently teaches classes at Hallmark University, San Antonio. He has authored more than 50 publications and often is asked to speak at conferences and industry meetings. He is active with United Way and periodically volunteers at food distribution centers with his family.

Tracy Charnetsky

Tracy Charnetsky, AIC, AINS

Director, Claims Management

Tracy Charnetsky has more than 25 years of experience in workers compensation claims management. She oversees the Claims Large Account Teams, serves as the claims liaison for brokers and agents, and oversees claims management of CopperPoint's other states program and commercial lines third party administrator. She joined the company in 1991 as a claims technician, was promoted to senior claims adjuster, and then became an accounts team leader servicing policy and claims-related issues to key accounts. In 2008 she became a claims manager, and then was promoted to director, claims management in 2016. Charnetsky holds a Bachelor of Science in communications through the University of California, San Diego. Additionally, she holds an Arizona property and casualty producers license and has received her designations of Associate in Claims and Associate in General Insurance.

Tom Collins

Tom Collins, CPCU, AU, AU-M, CRM, CIC

Senior Vice President & Chief Underwriting Officer

Tom Collins joined CopperPoint in October 2017 and in his role as chief underwriting officer is responsible for leading the organization's team of underwriters as it works with select agents and brokers to realize CopperPoint's business and operating strategies. Collins brings more than 30 years of experience in insurance, with his early career years rooted in workers' compensation in California. Collins was hired by Safeco Insurance Co. in 1990 and throughout the next decade worked in several underwriting positions; in 1996, he moved to Atlanta to be Safeco's Southeast Region workers' compensation underwriting manager. From 2000 to 2004, he joined Georgia Casualty and Surety in Atlanta as its underwriting vice president; he was named marketing manager at Holman & Company in 2001; then was region underwriting manager for CNA in 2002. In 2004 while at Westfield Group, Collins was a middle market field manager in Atlanta, then a middle market region leader (mid-Ohio and West Virginia). From 2014 until joining CopperPoint, Collins was assistant vice president, Commercial Lines Underwriting, at Grange Mutual Casualty in Columbus, Ohio, where he led a team of approximately 90 underwriting associates and field personnel to bring in $230 million of standard and specialty lines premium. Collins holds designations as a Charted Property Casualty Underwriter; and Associate in Commercial Underwriting; a Certified Risk Manager; an Associate in Commercial Underwriting, Management; and is a Certified Insurance Counselor. He earned a BA in Economics at California State University at Fullerton, Calif. Collins serves on the Brain Injury Alliance of Arizona’s board of directors.

Rachel Davis-Schultz

Rachel Davis-Schultz joined CopperPoint in February 2019 as Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer and is responsible for leading all aspects of Human Resources across the CopperPoint Family of Insurance Companies. She brings over 21 years of experience in HR management, benefits, talent management, employee engagement, culture transformation and more. In her career, Rachel has been involved with a number of major acquisitions and successful integrations, and has led teams that have experienced significant organic and inorganic growth. Most recently, she served as a Senior HR Director for Express Scripts, a pharmacy benefit manager, and a Fortune 20 organization with $100B+ in annual revenue. Rachel earned a Bachelor in Liberal Arts from Purdue University, and a Masters in Human Resources Management from Lindenwood University. She also attained the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification from the Society of Human Resources Management.

Ally Dawson joined the company in 2013. During her 30-year premium audit career, Dawson has worked in virtually every facet of the audit process, which brings a unique perspective and approach to her Premium Audit Director role. Previously, Dawson served as Premium Audit Field Supervisor with Insurance Company of the West (ICW Group) in Southern California and with Zenith Insurance Company as Regional Premium Audit Manager in Pleasanton, California. Dawson spent many years in the field auditing all lines of commercial insurance with multi-line carriers such as Zurich North America as a Large Account Specialist and Kemper Insurance. Dawson has completed coursework in Principles of Premium Auditing (APA 91) and Premium Auditing Applications (APA 92) from The Institutes. She serves as treasurer of the California Insurance Auditors and Managers Association (CIAMA).

Bobbie Fox

Bobbie Fox, ARM, CCEP, SPHR

Assistant Vice President, Associate General Counsel

Bobbie Fox represents CopperPoint in legal matters, including employment-related disputes, mediations, in state and federal courts, in appellate actions and contract drafting and negotiation. Fox is licensed in all Arizona state and federal courts and has appeared in numerous federal appellate courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court and the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. She also serves as judge pro tem for the Superior Court of Arizona, Maricopa County.

Fox has achieved the designations of Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP), and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). She received her a bachelor's degree from the University of North Dakota and earned her law degree from the University of North Dakota. After clerking for the North Dakota Supreme Court, she entered law practice in civil litigation, including insurance defense, employment law, civil personal injury, and Indian law. She joined CopperPoint Insurance Companies in 2004.

Fox is a frequent speaker at the State Bar Association of Arizona, human resources conferences and policyholder events on employment law and compliance topics. She is the author of the Americans with Disabilities Act chapter of the Arizona Employment Law Handbook published by the State Bar Association of Arizona. She currently serves on the Board of Local First Arizona and is a past president of the Board of Directors for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Phoenix.

Catherine Garfinkel

Director, Human Resources

Catherine Garfinkel joined CopperPoint in July 2016 with more than 20 years' experience in human resources. She was promoted to Director of Human Resources in March 2018 and is responsible for recruitment, compensation, employee recognition and employee wellness programs. Previously, Garfinkel held human resources positions with Macy's Inc. and the American International Group and has experience as a management consultant assisting commercial insurance companies with change management and organizational development initiatives. She holds a Bachelor in Business Administration degree from Hofstra University in New York. Garfinkel is a board member for the Phoenix chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and serves as Corporate Chairperson for the company's annual fundraising campaign. She also serves on the Advisory Council for the Employers Council.

Michael Goldman

Michael’s responsibilities include the oversight and execution of the inorganic strategy of the CopperPoint Family of Companies. The strategy includes acquisitions, mutual affiliations, strategic partnerships, assumed reinsurance and other vehicles. Prior to joining CopperPoint, he held various roles at Zurich and Liberty Mutual. Michael is a board member of the Arizona Business and Education Coalition, the Anti-Defamation League – Arizona region – and is a member of Arizona State University W.P. Carey School of Business Dean’s Council. He received his bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University and a Master of Business Administration from St. John’s University.

Yvette Gonzales

Yvette Gonzales has more than 25 years of experience in the information technology field and is a recognized industry leader for her ability to translate corporate goals into actionable IT strategies. Yvette joined CopperPoint in 2012. Within two years, her team led a successful conversion of the workers' compensation portfolio to a new Guidewire policy, rating, and billing system. Since then, CopperPoint has grown into other states and expanded commercial lines in the West. Yvette was previously VP of information services for Shelter Insurance Companies, a Midwest regional insurer, where her responsibilities included 19 lines of business in property and casualty, life, and reinsurance operations, and developing IT strategies to support 1,400 captive agents and 20 branch offices in 18 states. Yvette has been recognized as a Notable Achiever for Women in Insurance Leadership. She earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Missouri, obtained an MBA-CIO certification from Boston University, and a master's degree in global technology and development from Arizona State University. She serves on the board of directors for UMOM, a Phoenix-based nonprofit whose mission is to end homeless in Phoenix.

Dan Hernandez

Dan Hernandez began his career with CopperPoint Insurance Companies as a premium auditor in 1995. Since then, he has worked as a claims adjuster, an auditor compliance reviewer and as a team leader for an account services teams. He was a director from 2002 to 2010 overseeing various functions, including CopperPoint's Small Business Center and Customer Contact Centers. Hernandez was named vice president of operations and small business services in 2010. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Arizona and a master's in business administration from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.

Todd Hines

Todd Hines

Vice President, Loss Control & Risk Management Services

Todd Hines oversees loss control, risk management and health and safety services, including inspection and training, for policyholders. He joined the company in 2011. Todd chairs CopperPoint’s internal Safety and Security Committee, is a member of the enterprise Business Continuity Plan Committee and maintains PacificComp’s emergency preparedness program. Previously, he was founder and president of Safety Management Systems, LLC.  Todd is an accomplished health and safety professional who began his insurance career in 1986 with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. He holds a Master of Science degree in environmental, health and safety management from The Rochester Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial technology/manufacturing engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Stout. He is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP). Todd serves on the advisory board for the Worker Occupational Safety and Health Training and Educational Program (WOSHTEP), a California Department of Industrial Relations initiative, and is a member of the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCIAA) – Public Affairs Task Force.

Tarra Hrabrich has more than 25 years' experience in the insurance industry, including roles as adjuster, claims supervisor, and compliance manager. She joined CopperPoint in July 2010 and became a manager for a Technical, Regulatory and Compliance Solutions (TRACS) team in Claims. Prior to that, she worked for a Wisconsin mutual insurance company, as well as third-party administrators and multi-state carriers. She holds a Bachelor in Business Management degree with a minor in Professional Communication from Alverno College in Wisconsin, and a Master in Information Systems Management from DeVry University.

Jennifer J. Johnston joined CopperPoint in August 2018 as the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer and is responsible for marketing and communications across the CopperPoint Family of Insurance Companies. She brings over 25 years of experience in strategic marketing and communications including 10 years in the commercial property and casualty industry. She has extensive expertise in all facets of marketing including brand awareness, brand reputation, demand generation, sales enablement, communications, research/customer insights, thought leadership, and digital marketing. Most recently she served as Chief Strategic Marketing Officer for PMA Companies and Old Republic Insurance Group. Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Marketing from Bishop’s University (Canada), and a Social Sciences degree from Champlain College (Canada). She also graduated from the University of British Columbia Faculty of Commerce Program for executive development. Jennifer is active in several community organizations.

Mark L. Joos joined CopperPoint in June 2017 as its chief financial officer. Joos is responsible for overseeing the Finance Division, including Finance, Accounting and Investments. He brings a deep understanding of insurance industry corporate finance and demonstrates an expertise in insurance industry best practices, along with setting financial priorities for company growth. Joos has more than 25 years of industry experience, most recently serving as the senior vice president and chief financial officer for GuideOne Insurance, where he oversaw capital management, managed rating agency relationships and executed strategic initiatives. He began his career at PricewaterhouseCooper in the firm's Insurance Industry Practice. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Arizona State University and is a Certified Public Accountant. He also earned a Master in Business Administration degree at the University of Chicago in 2001.

Mark Kendall

As Vice President, Legal Services, Mark Kendall oversees CopperPoint’s Legal Services Division. He has been with CopperPoint for over 20 years and is a member of the State Bar of Arizona and a certified specialist in workers’ compensation. Kendall graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from Northern Arizona University. He received a master’s in international relations from University of Arizona and earned his law degree from Arizona State University. He also earned a Ph.D. in law and society/justice studies from ASU. Kendall is past co-chair of the workers compensation section of the State Bar of Arizona and of the Arizona Workers Compensation Defense Counsel Association. Kendall, a Valley Leadership alumnus, serves on the boards of Children’s Action Alliance and Arizona Chamber of Commerce. Mark also previously served on the advisory board for Kids’ Chance Arizona.

Dave Kuhn

Dave Kuhn joined CopperPoint and its family of insurance companies in April 2018. He brings more than 30 years of experience in the property casualty industry. In his role as Regional President for PacificComp, Kuhn is responsible for profit and loss in the California region. In his role as Executive Vice President, Enterprise Distribution, he is responsible for setting the overall distribution strategy and approach for the enterprise. Most recently he served as regional executive for QBE Insurance, where he was responsible for launching their Western region. Previously, he served as regional president for Hanover Insurance Group, where he oversaw the company's Pacific region. He also has served as senior vice president of Bank of America Insurance Group; regional president of The St. Paul Companies; and regional vice president of Hartford Specialty Company. Kuhn earned a Bachelor of Science, Finance, from Le Moyne College, Syracuse, N.Y., and holds Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate Risk Management (ARM) designations.

Jim Levine has more than 25 years of finance and accounting experience within the property/casualty insurance industry in both a Statutory and GAAP reporting environment. Levine joined CopperPoint Insurance Companies in August 2008 as manager of financial reporting and became assistant vice president and controller in February 2012. Prior to joining CopperPoint, Levine held financial management positions at American Reliable Insurance Company (subsidiary of Assurant, Inc.) and Repwest Insurance Company (subsidiary of AMERCO). Levine holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Arizona State University.

Diane Liberman

Diane Liberman, PMP

Assistant Vice President, Operations & Small Business Services

Diane Liberman has over 20 years of leadership experience across diverse business sectors, including property and casualty insurance. Prior to joining CopperPoint, Liberman successfully planned and led several key organizational teams and projects. She joined CopperPoint Insurance Companies in 2005 as a manager overseeing business services and direct writing teams. While at CopperPoint, Liberman has been instrumental in the oversight and implementation of several successful strategic initiatives. She received her bachelor's degree from New Mexico State University and is certified as a Project Management Professional. She has earned a master's in Business Administration from Grand Canyon University and she holds an Arizona Property and Casualty producer's license. Diane is active in community service programs and serves on the board for the Arizona Animal Welfare League.

Ronnie Lopez

Ronnie Lopez was appointed to the CopperPoint Insurance Companies Board of Directors in 2009. Prior to that he has held a variety of high-level positions in the Phoenix political and business community, including chairman of Phoenix International Consultants, president & CEO of nonprofit Chicanos Por La Causa, chief of staff for Gov. Bruce Babbitt, justice of the peace in Maricopa County and field representative for the Arizona Civil Rights Commission. Lopez also has served as a member of the Arizona Board of Directors of Bank of America. Among his many accolades, the Maricopa Community College Foundation created the "Ronnie Lopez Leading with Heart Award" in 2008, and the foundation has also created an endowed scholarship in his name. Lopez is a member of Valle Del Sol's Profiles of Success Hall of Fame. Lopez was named 1999 Executive of the Year by the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. His commitment to public service was first officially recognized in 1975, when he was named one of 'Three Outstanding Young Men of Phoenix' by the Phoenix Jaycees.

LoriAnn Lowery-Biggers joined The Navigators Group Inc. in 2009 as President of Field Operations and Chief Marketing Officer. She has more than 25 years experience in the insurance industry, most recently as President of Lloyd's of London-North America. She previously held executive positions as Risk Management and Financial Products Managing Director and National Practice Leader for Wells Fargo, Vice-Chairman of Wells Fargo Captive Inc., Managing Director, Financial Products at Marsh & McLennan and Sedgwick Inc. Lowery-Biggers serves on the national board of Prevent Child Abuse America and the advisory board of St. John's University, New York City. She is a board member for the A21 Campaign, Propel Women, Global Advance Inc., and the Heart of a Champion Foundation. She also serves on the Counsel on Litigation Management.

Trent Marchuk joined CopperPoint in October 2018 with more than 15 years’ experience in the technology and finance industries. In his role, Marchuk is responsible for leading the new program management function designed to help the company collaborate and holistically execute on its strategic initiatives to drive profitable growth. Previously, Marchuk managed large-scale efforts to ensure business and IT programs meet organizational goals and strategies and has proven experience improving operational performance and leading global business transformation and expansion efforts. Most recently, Marchuk was the Head of Program Management for Financial Systems Transformation at Google, where he worked for over five years. He also held leadership roles in strategic operations for Cisco, a multinational technology conglomerate. Marchuk holds dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Information Systems and Supply Chain Management from Arizona State University and earned his Masters of Business Administration from the University of California, Berkley. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University and is a certified Cisco Six Sigma Plus Greenbelt and Project Management Professional (PMP).

Kathy O'Malley joined CopperPoint in October, 2015. O'Malley has more than 30 years of experience in property and casualty insurance and 20 years of application development experience. Prior to joining CopperPoint, she worked for Scottsdale Insurance Company (a subsidiary of Nationwide Insurance) as the director of application development and was responsible for the core systems and middleware that supported all submission, policy and claim activities. In this role, O'Malley delivered several key projects that enabled business growth, made significant strides in legacy modernization, and implemented disaster recovery for all critical applications. In her prior role as a business consulting leader for Scottsdale, she led the cross-functional team that delivered the Brokerage Underwriting Transformation Initiative, resulting in significant premium growth for Brokerage Underwriting. O'Malley holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems from DeVry Institute of Technology and a IIA certificate in General Insurance.

Leslie Oches joined CopperPoint in July 2017 and in her role as vice president is a key player in the company's workers' compensation insurance expansion and distribution strategies in other states. Oches has nearly 20 years' experience in marketing and underwriting. She most recently served as assistant vice president, Region Manager, for Safeco Insurance Company Mountain Region (a member of Liberty Mutual), where she was part of the leadership team responsible for a six-state footprint for Safeco, including Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming. She also was responsible for the profit and loss of a territory of $290 million in written premium in Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada. Prior to that, Oches served as territory manager for Safeco Insurance Company, managing more than 70 agencies in the Valley and northern Arizona. She also previously held positions in underwriting, including assistant vice president of underwriting for Colorado Casualty Insurance, and underwriting manager for Ohio Casualty Insurance (both members of Liberty Mutual). Oches began her career as a commercial lines field specialist for Indiana Insurance. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Management, and an Associate in Business degrees from Indiana Wesleyan University. She also holds an Associate in Underwriting designation and serves on the board of the local Arizona chapter of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF).

Mary O'Malley

Mary O’Malley brings extensive experience with multi-line product development, pricing, marketing and product management to CopperPoint. Previously at Nationwide Insurance Company’s Excess & Surplus Division (formerly Scottsdale Insurance Company), she served as a director in the brokerage underwriting division. In this role, she evaluated and developed new products and programs, identified enhancements to existing programs and managed the product life cycle. Prior to that, she was a senior consultant and IT liaison for a brokerage transformation initiative to drive brand growth. O’Malley has more than 20 years of experience underwriting individual risk business and programs and building strong broker relations; in addition, she has 10 years of experience as a product owner and IT partner in developing new or modifying existing systems. O’Malley holds an Associate of Applied Business degree from Scottsdale Community College. She is a New York native and is active in United Way.

Judith Patrick

Judith Patrick was appointed to the CopperPoint Insurance Companies Board of Directors in 1992 and served as Chair from 2009 to 2014. She is a principal of R.G. Patrick Land planning and Development in Tucson. Previously, Patrick owned companies in the Tucson area, including R.G. Patrick Ltd, HP Tradition Homes, JR Development, Catalina Sail & Marine, and Las Brisas Cable. From 1973 through 2000 she held a variety of positions in Pima County government including the Board of Supervisors, Central Permits, and Building Codes. She served as the director of Land Planning and Development Services for Pima County from 1991-2000. In addition to Board positions with CopperPoint and Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities, Patrick serves on the Southwestern Fair Commission, and is a member of the Tucson Airport Authority. She also served on the Pima County Self Insurance Trust Fund and the City of Tucson's Public Safety Retirement Board. Patrick is a longtime volunteer and activist on behalf of the Tucson Boys Chorus and the Pima Council on Aging. She is an active member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) and the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC). Patrick earned a Certification of Public Management from the University of Arizona and an Associate Degree of Public Management at Pima Community College.

Bob Roland

Bob Roland joined CopperPoint in January 2017, as Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff. His responsibilities include claims and related processes, corporate development, internal audit, and the integration of alternative growth and acquisitions. Roland has nearly 30 years of experience in the property and casualty industry. With deep knowledge of P&C insurance, he also is a respected expert in data management. He has significant experience in merger integrations, having led more than 15 financial integrations, as well as in strategic systems development, having led more than 20 large-scale systems development projects. His responsibilities at CopperPoint include overseeing total data flow and integration, process improvement and overall strategic capabilities. Previously, Roland served as senior vice president, Corporate Financial and Actuarial Operations at The Travelers Companies. During that time, he also supported business insurance, effectively managing the flow of data throughout the enterprise and to many external reporting functions. While at Travelers, Roland served on the Business Insurance Strategic Leadership group, the CFO Counsel and numerous steering groups. He holds a Bachelor of Science, Management, with Human Resources concentration from the University of Connecticut.

Tina Rosales-Stoffle has more than 25 years of professional finance and audit experience within the insurance industry. Prior to re-joining CopperPoint Insurance Companies in September 2002, she was an accounting manager with Arthur Andersen. Recently promoted to AVP of Internal Audit, Tina is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified in Risk Management Assurance(CRMA) and holds a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from Western International University.

Kelly Ruud

Kelly Ruud joined CopperPoint in September 2009. Ruud has more than 10 years of financial and accounting experience. In her capacity as AVP of Financial Systems, she is responsible for accounting and finance applications in support of accounting, financial reporting and planning. In addition, Ruud supports cross-functional strategic initiatives and system implementations. Prior to joining CopperPoint, she worked four years in public accounting with Ernst & Young, LLP. She holds a bachelor's degree in Finance from Arizona State University and a Master's of Accounting from the University of Notre Dame. Ruud is a Certified Public Accountant and a CPCU.

Marc E. Schmittlein

Schmittlein brings more than 30 years of commercial insurance experience. He joined CopperPoint on June 6, 2016. Schmittlein was most recently with The Travelers Company as president of its cyber business division and previously as co-president of business insurance. Prior to those roles, he served as president and CEO of the small commercial division known as Select Accounts, a $2.7 billion division of Travelers' Business Insurance that included workers compensation, business owner's policy, umbrella coverage and commercial auto. In addition, his career includes leadership roles in commercial divisions of St. Paul Companies and Aetna. Schmittlein holds the designations of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter and Accredited Advisor in Insurance. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Allegheny College, Pennsylvania. Schmittlein is active with United Way and has served as honorary chair of the Western Connecticut Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

Judy Schumacher is an award-winning Fortune 500 executive with expertise in management, consulting, strategic planning, marketing and advertising. Most recently Schumacher was vice president of marketing and communications for Main Street Restaurant Group, owner/operator of T.G.I Friday's and The Bamboo Club. Prior to that she owned and successfully operated a full-service communications consulting firm specializing in marketing and advertising, media relations, financial communications and issues research. Previously, she was director of corporate communications for Arizona Public Service, the state's largest electric utility. Prior to APS, Schumacher was director of communications and investor media relations with Tosco Marketing Company/Circle K, from 1987 to 1996. She serves on the board of directors for Social Venture Partners in Arizona and has been nominated to the Phoenix Sister Cities Commission.

In his capacity as COO, Scott Shader is responsible for core business operations in support of strategic initiatives and corporate growth plans. He has extensive experience in commercial lines insurance, including expertise in analysis, building and running businesses with P&L responsibility, product underwriting and oversight of technology. His insurance background spans more than 30 years. Prior to joining CopperPoint, Shader was executive vice president at Endurance Express; he also oversaw contract binding at Endurance Insurance. Before that, Shader was executive vice president at Axis Express Solutions, as well as Axis Capital. Prior to Axis, Shader was with the Hanover Insurance Group where he served as president, Small Commercial; chief operations officer, Commercial Lines; and vice president, Small Commercial and Business Development. He also held executive leadership positions with The Willis Group; St. Paul Travelers Companies; and Hartford Financial Services and Insurance Group, where he helped develop "pay-as-you-go" workers comp as a new product. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, and graduated summa cum laude from State University New York (SUNY) in Oswego, N.Y. Shader is a board member of Southwest Human Development.

With more than four decades of experience in the insurance industry, Donald A. Smith Jr. joined CopperPoint Insurance Companies on June 1, 2000, serving as President and CEO for 16 years. Smith was formerly a deputy secretary in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Labor and Industry. He also spent 20 years in private industry at New York-based insurer Continental, where he began his career. From 1990 until joining the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, he was vice president and director for the company's Mid-Atlantic region. Smith is a 1974 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and carries the designation of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter. He earned his law degree in May 2000 from Widener University School of Law in Harrisburg, Pa., and was admitted to the Arizona Bar in May 2001. From 2004-2006, Smith served as chairman of the board of directors for the Grand Canyon Chapter of the American Red Cross, and he was named the organization's "Humanitarian of the Year" in 2008. As an insurance industry leader, Smith has served on the boards of the National Council on Compensation Insurance, and was a past president of the CPCU Society, Central Arizona Chapter. As an Arizona business leader Smith was named a Phoenix Business Journal Most Admired CEO in 2009, Arizona Chamber of Commerce Transformational Leader of the Year in 2010 and the Greater Phoenix Economic Council distinguished service award recipient in 2011. He is a past Board member of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, and currently serves on the executive committee of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council and the Valley of the Sun United Way. He was also the 2011 Valley of the Sun United Way Campaign Chair. He heads the advisory board of the Center for the Future of Arizona think-tank, led by former ASU President Lattie Coor. Smith also serves on the Board of Directors of Greater Phoenix Leadership, where he serves on the state fiscal policy committee.

Seth Solomon has 15 years insurance experience, with 13 of that focused in commercial lines underwriting. He is responsible for the daily underwriting function, referral processes, underwriting skill sets and coordination with the Business Development team. Prior to joining CopperPoint, Solomon was Director of Middle-market Commercial Underwriting for Nationwide Insurance’s regional office in Scottsdale, Ariz. He led a team of three managers and 28 multi-line underwriters and was responsible for profit, loss, growth and retention oversight of a $175 million portfolio in a seven-state footprint that included Arizona, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Texas, Utah and Wyoming. He also worked in partnership with that company’s Business Development, as well as provided strategic oversight in the implementation of a construction industry vertical. Before Nationwide, Solomon had worked at Central Insurance Companies in Irving, Texas, and he got his insurance start as a claims representative for Progressive Insurance Company in Arlington, Texas. Solomon earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism/advertising from the University of North Texas. He has certification as a Certified Insurance Counselor, Associate in Commercial Underwriting, Program in Supervisory Management and Certificate in General Insurance.

Mary Ann Sturm

Mary Ann Sturm joined CopperPoint Insurance Companies in December 2004. She has more than 20 years' experience as a leader in the human resources industry. Prior to joining CopperPoint, Sturm worked in several senior human resources management positions including director of human resources for two high tech companies in the Greater Phoenix Area. She received a bachelor's degree from Akron (Ohio) University and her master's in business administration from the University of Phoenix. Sturm is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and has earned a Professional HR certification and is a Certified Compensation Professional. She also serves on the Cancer Support Community Arizona board of directors.

Gale Vogler

Gale Vogler has almost 25 years in the workers' compensation insurance industry. Through his insurance career he has had several different roles that provide a well-rounded perspective of the insurance industry. He has held positions within a third-party administrator, self-insured program, an insurance carrier, and most recently on the independent agency side. Prior to arriving at CopperPoint in November 2017, Vogler was director of managed care at ACUITY Insurance in Sheboygan, Wis., where he'd worked for 19 years. While at ACUITY he held several positions, ranging from claims management, training and consulting, to developing and managing the company's managed care programs. He has developed key skills in streamlined managed care strategies, agency relations and state expansion projects. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Northern Illinois University. Additionally, he holds an Arizona property and casualty producers license.

Chad Welborn

Chad Welborn joined CopperPoint Insurance Companies in 2009 as Chief Investment Officer. As the CIO, he is responsible for the overall investment strategy and management of CopperPoint's $3.5 billion investment portfolio. The portfolio consists of fixed income securities, equities, real estate, commercial mortgages and alternative investments.

He has more than 20 years of investment management experience. Prior to joining CopperPoint, he was the Director of Investments at RLI Insurance Co., a publicly traded property and casualty insurance company. Before that he held portfolio management positions at National City Bank, Merrill Lynch, and First Chicago Bank. Welborn earned an MBA in Finance from Loyola University in Chicago and has a bachelor's degree in Business from Lake Forest College.

Welborn is a board member for Valley Leadership and Labor's Community Service Agency. He and his wife, Mandy, have three daughters.

Dan Witt

Dan Witt brings more than 20 years' leadership experience in the insurance industry dealing with workers compensation and commercial auto lines to his role as assistant vice president of claims management at CopperPoint Insurance Companies. He joined the company in 2004 as an accounts team leader servicing policy and claim related issues, and became a claims manager in 2008. Before joining CopperPoint, Witt was a loss control department supervisor and manager for Enterprise Rent-a-Car's West and Nevada Groups, where he led employees in claims management for fleets of vehicles. He later became loss control manager of Enterprise's Heartland Group in the Midwest, managing a team of claims professionals responsible for an automotive rental fleet. Witt holds a B.S. in business administration and marketing through the University of Arizona and earned an Executive MBA through the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. Additionally, he holds an Arizona property and casualty producer's license.
