CopperPoint Announces Employee Volunteer of Year: Chiko Swiney

PHOENIX, Arizona - CopperPoint Insurance Companies has awarded Chiko Swiney, an attorney in its Legal Services division, the Don Smith Volunteer of the Year Award. Swiney is recognized for her work with Ronald McDonald House Charities in Phoenix. The award includes a $500 donation for that charity organization.

Swiney has volunteered at RMHC Phoenix on Roanoke since 2008, where she participates as a member of the "Big Macs," Volunteers who cook meals for families who are guests at Ronald McDonald House. Each month, she plans, assigns tasks and makes sure healthy dinners are available nightly for the families staying at the facility. In 2016, Swiney volunteered more than 90 hours at Ronald McDonald House. She also serves on the RMHC board of directors; where she has helped to plan the organization's annual fundraising gala, "A McNight to Remember."

"Chiko truly defines the phrase 'giving of her time, talent and treasures,' " said Marc Schmittlein, President and CEO. "She exemplifies the spirit of giving, asking nothing in return. Her involvement not only benefits Ronald McDonald House, but reflects positively on CopperPoint and spreads CopperPoint's message of the need for, and the benefit of, charitable giving."

This is the second year for the award, which was created to honor Don Smith, retired former president and CEO of CopperPoint. During his tenure, Smith was instrumental in inspiring employees to volunteer and give back to their communities. CopperPoint employees enjoy 12 hours paid annual time to volunteer with a nonprofit of their choice.  In 2016, employees volunteered 5,835 hours in support of more than 100 Arizona nonprofits.
