CopperPoint Insurance Companies Helps Kids in Need Get "Pack to School"

CopperPoint donated 700 backpacks filled with school supplies to Edison Elementary

PHOENIX, AZ - CopperPoint Insurance Company volunteers recently donated over 700 backpacks to the students of Edison Elementary School to kick off the school year. Every student in the K-8 school received a backpack filled with supplies such folders, notebooks, pencils, scissors and a ruler. Volunteers were accompanied by the Phoenix Sun's Gorilla.

Every year CopperPoint chooses a local school with students in need of a little help. Community Engagement Coordinator for CopperPoint, Jill Maruca, says the company looks for schools with over 90% of their students on the free and reduced lunch program. The company purchases the backpacks and employees in each department donate the supplies to fill them. CopperPoint has donated over 12,400 backpacks to Phoenix school children with its Pack to School program over the last 12 years.

"I know that it is hard for parents to get supplies. I love seeing the little ones opening their backpacks to see what's inside," said Rochel Velez, Imaging and Mail Services Supervisor for CopperPoint and long-time Pack to School volunteer.

CopperPoint also provided Edison teachers with a year-long membership to Treasures 4 Teachers, a nonprofit organization that gives educators access to free/cheaper supplies.

"The generosity of CopperPoint to our students and our school was so appreciated," said Edison School Principal Fred Graef. "Every student at our school received a backpack and supplies. Every teacher received a membership to Treasures 4 Teachers. We cannot thank them enough for their time and effort in bringing these gifts to our community."
